Attaches to the case and keeps the watch on your wrist.
Central structure upon which the watch is built. The case houses the movement and dial.
Ring around the crystal that serves as alternative time keeping as well as protects the crystal.
Graphical reference that registers the time as well as communicates the information the watch contains.
Moves the hands to keep accurate time. The movement is the brain of the watch located directly beneath the dial out of sight.
Controls the positioning of main hands and date. It is waterproofed by either a gasket or screw down mechanism.
Controls the secondary watch functions in chronograph watches.
Small window in the main dial revealing the date.
Small dial positioned below the main dial which contains and communicates all the secondary information such as date, stop watch, 24-hr, etc.
This hand counts the minutes that have passed in your timing sequence when the chronograph is engaged.
Counts in 1/20th of a second increments when chronograph is engaged. Hand will stop spinning after 30 seconds to preserve battery, but is still keeping the 1/20th of a second time.
The normal ticking second hand for everyday use.
When chronograph is engaged, this large second hand will keep time at 4 beats / second.
To set the date window to the correct date. Pull the crown out 1 click (half way.) Rotate the crown until the date displays accurately. To set the house and minute hands, pull crown all the way out (2 clicks.) Rotate the crown until the time displays accurately.
To begin timing in the stopwatch mode (chronograph), unscrew the top pusher completely and depress one time to begin. Press one time again to stop the stopwatch. Always remember to screw pusher down completely when finished. To reset the stopwatch function, unscrew the bottom pusher completely and press one time. Always remember to screw down all pushers and completely depress crown before entering water.
All electric watches have at least a water rating of 20 atm (200 meters.) That means you can surf, snorkel, spear fish and shower daily in your watch. Be sure to always rinse your watch with clean water after exposure to salt / water / sand.
The movement is the brain of the watch. It is the mechanical entity that keeps accurate time. A movement should be evaluated by the functions it provides, how it provides those functions, and the quality of manufacturing. Electric utilizes the most accurate and most durable Japanese and Swiss analog movements on the market.

Surgical stainless steel prevents specific forms of corrosion. It is also known as marine grade stainless steel due to its increased resistance to chloride corrosion compared to type 304. 316 is often used for building nuclear reprocessing plants. It is generally used in stainless steel watches and marine applications, as well as exclusively in the fabrication of reactor pressure vessels for boiling water reactors, due to its high resistance to corrosion. 316 SS allows for precision machining and is used in electric’s cases, crowns, pushers, case backs and band hardware.
Grade 304 is the standard “18/8” stainless; it is the most versatile and most widely used stainless steel, available in a wider range of products, forms and finishes than any other. It has excellent forming and welding characteristics. Electric uses 304 SS in our stainless steel bands.
The process of using strong acid or mordant to cut into the unprotected parts of a metal surface to create a design or pattern. FW02 and DW01 models use this etching process to achieve the etched numbers and indicies in the bezel.
Jewels serve two purposes in a watch. First, they are implemented to reduced friction and can in turn, increase accuracy. Friction in the wheel train bearings and the escapement causes slight variations in the impulses applied to the balance wheel, causing variations in the rate of timekeeping. The low friction of jewel surfaces reduces these variations. Secondly, jewels can increase the life of the bearings. In un-jeweled bearings, the pivots of the watch’s wheels rotate in holes in the plates supporting the movement. The sideways force applied by the driving gear causes more pressure and friction on one side of the hole. In some of the wheels, the rotating shaft can eventually wear away the hole until it is oval shaped, and the watch stops.
Polyurethanes are used in the manufacture of flexible, high-resilience foam seating; rigid foam insulation panels; micro-cellular foam seals and gaskets; durable elastomeric wheels and tires (such as roller coaster wheels); automotive suspension bushings; electrical potting compounds; high performance adhesives; surface coatings and surface sealants; synthetic fibers (e.g., spandex); carpet underlay; hard-plastic parts (e.g., for electronic instruments); hoses and skateboard wheels. Fully reacted polyurethane is chemically inert. PU is highly moldable and desirable for watch bands due to its natural flexibility and soft feel against the skin. Unlike woven fabric bands or natural leather bands, PU is non-porous and quick drying, ideal for uses in and around water.
Physical vapor deposition is a variety of vacuum deposition methods used to deposit thin films by the condensation of a vaporized form of the desired film material onto various work piece surfaces. PVD is a common IP plating process used in the watch industry. The coating method involves purely physical processes such as high temperature vacuum evaporation with subsequent condensation, or plasma sputter bombardment rather than involving a chemical reaction at the surface to be coated as in chemical vapor deposition.
Is an extremely hard (MOHS 9-9.5) refractory ceramic material, similar to tungsten carbide. It is commercially used in tool bits. It has the appearance of black powder with nacl-type face centered cubic crystal structure. Titanium carbide is also used as a surface coating on some titanium watches. Electric uses titanium carbide in its PVD coating process for all black coatings, mainly seen on the bezel.
